FOR YOUR CLOSET

FOR ENTERTAINING

be your best guest.

I have found that wedding season is not really located in a certain season anymore, it is scattered all throughout. Along with parties, showers or other celebrations! I thought it would be fun to share with you my favorite looks + gifts for the occasions to be your best guest.

ENJOY

engaged? now what.

I get this statement almost every call with a newly engaged bride to be …”I don’t even know where to start”. I have also been here myself so I thought I would give anyone reading my personal advice on where to start!

  1. deep breaths: enjoy the celebration. Don’t be so caught up in the “I have so much to do” mentality. BE IN THE MOMENT. What is meant to be will be, with proper planning and prioritizing you will get everything you want in the end so no need for a fire drill!

  2. guest list. This is something that is crucial in figuring out where to begin on your venue hunt. For example: if you had a guest list of 75 you wouldn't be looking for a ballroom venue that fits 350. When you determine your guest count it allows you to have a more condensed venue hunt. this also helps in creating a realistic budget. your guest list determines EVERYTHING. For every person attending plan on spending X amount for that person (depends on venue chosen, style, etc.).

  3. wedding planner: after you have compiled your guest list is when I would call on a planner. obviously I am partial to myself, but if you are searching for one do your research! set up phone calls, meet with them and make sure it is a good fit. you will spend a large amount of time with this person and if you do not like them from the beginning you will really not like them in the end. This relationship matters and I really feel it should be mutual. I have a super personal relationship with my brides/ families. some I still text on a regular basis. I wouldn’t want it any other way! this is such a personal day + it is SO IMPORTANT to hire who is right for you…

  4. venue hunt:

-if you are not hiring a wedding planner (bless you brave soul) but determining the venue is how you “set the date”. I suggest making a list based on what you want in a wedding. if you want a city focused wedding then search for all the downtown venues, gather information on how they work, their average budget per wedding, and any limitations the venue may have. From there go visit them, make sure you love it, and make sure your budget aligns with all of the costs.

-if you have hired a wedding planner: tell them what you want in a venue, tell them your vision, if you have no idea then let them bring you ideas. a bonus in a creative wedding planner is they may know of things either newly on the market + creative “non venue” alternatives that may be a great fit.

  5. big vendor items: so you have the date, the venue, the man/ woman. now its time the set the other important vendors… band / dj , photographer , and florist

-photographer: much like your relationship being important with a planner…your photographer is the other person you must like. you must like their style, their shots, their personality. you spend 10 hours of your wedding day with this person! make sure its a good fit. do your research again! go through their website, their social media and set up a phone call or meeting with them to get to know them a little better.

-band/ dj /florist: this is either something that is important to you or not so much. explain to your planner what you want in a band. They will be able to gather information from there and make sure it fits within your budget.

-florist: this is where instagram is a great tool. sift through photos of things you like, don’t like and tell your planner. if you have found someone who you think is perfect hire them. what you see is what you get from a florist …so my biggest advice here is don’t hire them thinking they will make yours look different than what you see on their platforms. once a florist has a “style” they stick with it!

  6. paper goods: if you are sending out save the dates: this is to you. I think its so important to have a cohesive style in your paper goods. So I start this process early with brides! I like to sit down and pick out every item of your “suite” from the start that way you have a story with your selections.

  7. take a minute: if you have a engagement longer than 6 months I always tell people to push pause after these big ticket items are complete. wedding planning can be incredibly consuming and I think its important to have balance. if you find yourself only talking to friends about your wedding its probably time to pause.

I hope this is helpful to anyone needing it! Please let me know if you want to connect. I also offer initial consultations to help people start wedding planning with no strings attached.

birthday getaway.

this week I am [continuing to] celebrate my 30 years of living with a trip to the most beautiful place — exuma bahamas! I try to come here as much as I can + for this trip my closest friends are joining me. We are soaking up the sun + enjoying all things on the water. I feel so lucky to extend my birthday celebrations here and below is a peak at my birthday dinner I threw together using foraged flowers from the Bahamian landscape and colors that make me happy.

Also because people always need an excuse for new things .. what I packed for this trip is all linked below!

spring fever.

SPRING IS FINALLY HERE!

Finally the winter months have passed + people everywhere are searching for outdoor patio spaces to meet. Since I love a good party at home I thought I would share my new favorite go- getter’s company “GATHER TO GRAZE”. Jess Williams is my right hand girl to all events but recently she has decided to go for it and started her own small business in the party world. She is offering custom grazing boards for any get- together of any size + I can officially say THEY ARE AMAZING.

we threw this get - together after an event so we were so lucky…we had leftover florals from the talented group at Jackson Durham + linens from BBJ (I love their new spring collection!)

the scout guide Nashville.

THE SCOUT GUIDE.

last fall I was asked to be in the scout guide of Nashville, for each person’s page you were given complete freedom of what you wanted your image to look like. So naturally (and being my first in print ad) I wanted my page to feel completely ME.

I am thrilled with the outcome because it truly does feel like me, so here are a few of my favorite things. The root of doing what I do is to get back to the basics: less is always more. I like to embrace my surroundings + bring in subtle details to create a design that is inviting, classic and serene.

ALL THINGS I LOVE.

  1. Location: outside. I am a lover of the outdoors so for this shoot I decided it had to be outdoors (and blissfully fell on a gorgeous overcast day in November with the foliage still peaking in the background!) I loved bringing in this arbor from Please be Seated because it gave the look that “Sonoma inspired” style I gravitate towards always!

2. Neutrals are always a good idea. I made the centerpiece arrangement to really blend in with the surroundings instead of overpower it. I HAD to throw in my favorite flowers: white anemones to capture the table runner + slate charger contrast! I also brought in these gorgeous fringed napkins from West Elm because they are my own and I loved the texture they gave! Instead of your normal escort card (not a fan of doing the normal) I fell in love with these west elm coasters as another way to blend in other gold elements to blend with the gold rimmed glasses on the table top!

3. Greenery is great. I got 2 packs of smilax vine for $12 and last minute added the hanging greenery on the arbor! I was so happy I did it because it really allowed a luscious garden image! PS. if you are wanting this look: smilax naturally hangs on to structures, normal greenery does not work as well!

4. Kept my outfit classic. A white button down has never or will never go out of style. I didn’t want my look to be busy or something I would regret in the future…so I channeled Ralph Lauren and went simply classic.

6. I celebrated! In each journey + business milestone its important to really reflect on what you are doing, why you are doing it + what future plans you have. I really celebrated being in this album 7 with all of the many amazing talents that neighbored me in the book. I have loved expanding my network and meeting other entrepreneurs in our community! Can’t wait to share photos of the event we have planned up to launch the guide!

Here is the finalized ad + I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. Thank you to Mary Craven Photography and The Scout Guide Nashville for being so wonderful! Love my community + look forward to continue growing my small business!

spring break dreaming.

I wish the “spring break” holiday applied to me still but every year around April I set aside a long weekend to go back to my warm + happy place on the water! Since I am from Florida I love returning home to see family or finding new places to venture off to in the state, so below are some of my favorite warm weather getaways + why I love them!

FLORIDA PANHANDLE

pensacola

  • fly directly into pensacola airport

  • warm white sandy beaches

  • rich history

  • beautiful moss trees + antebellum homes

  • blue angels!

  • downtown is precious + full of good restaurants / bars

  • gorgeous small town with more of a local presence than most Florida destinations!

30a

  • bike everywhere: no car needed

  • super close drive to the Panama City airport where you can fly direct

  • amazing restaurants (Edwards, George’s + Bud + Alleys are my favorites!)

  • beautiful home rentals + hotel options (The Pearl is my pick!)

  • serene (but crowded during actual spring break times, best to go during off season!)

  • alys beach is something to see + spend time walking around

  • family oriented

  • live music + dining outside

  • good shopping…hello Willow Boutique

sandestin/ destin

  • home sweet home for me

  • white sand beaches + warm water

  • amazing offshore fishing (it’s how Destin was even established!)

  • good seafood (Camille’s for sushi, Vintij for Italian / good wine + Dewey Destin’s for all seafood … my long time favorites)

  • Go down to the Destin jetty’s or cruise the harbor at sunset (favorite thing to do when I am home)

SOUTH FLORIDA

miami

  • direct flight

  • the contemporary art …unparalleled.

  • clubbing scene (if you are into that go to Nikki beach + Palace, I used to be but now I prefer other things)

  • amazing restaurants + drink spots (le sirenuse, soho house + juvia)

  • large range beaches

  • people watching + the miami culture (must go to an authentic cuban spot!)

  • beautiful places to stay + enjoy hotel perks (mondarin oriental, soho house, and the betsy)

  • shopping the design district

  • bigger city getaway on water

  • boating + seeing the city by water (it made me fall in love with miami)

palm beach + jupiter

  • beautiful hotels (the colony is newly remodeled + forever classic “the breakers” is located right on the beach)

  • shopping

  • beautiful interior design scene: kips bay decorator show house is in January - February every year!

  • fishing + boating is beautiful (super close to the bahamas!)

  • less crowded beaches

  • biking - beautiful flat land

the keys

  • direct flight into miami + drive 2 hours (a little more of a trek…4-5 days is needed in my opinion!

  • islamorado is my personal favorite + in college we went on actual spring break there!

  • beautiful resort right on a private beach: the moorings (shown in posted photo!) OR the caribbean resort

  • amazing fishing + watersports

  • a less crowded option for typical spots in Florida, trust the locals with any recommendation they may have!

  • key west: full of history and vibrant bars / restaurants

anna maria island

  • direct flight into Tampa + drive 1 hour

  • beautiful beaches + water

  • very low key + not as touristy for a beautiful beach town

  • small town + extremely nice locals

  • walking the island was my favorite thing to do-it’s small enough to make a morning of it!

  • super affordable lodging - airbnb is best here as hotels + condos don’t really exist!

self love.

As we head into this month of LOVE I wanted to share with you all my favorite things I have been finding! I think self love is far more important before you can fully love anyone or anything else. So I am sharing with you my favorite things from self care items, to just getting all dressed up for a night out. Treating myself whether big or small purchases is helpful to make me feel refreshed + taken care of.

Happy Valentines Day…

my home wish list.

Over Christmas I shared the exciting news that we are building a home! This has been a complete work in progress since March of 2018 I just didn’t know when to share it OR if I was going to. I decided I would because this is exactly why I started this blog… To show you my style + share where I find things. Our home will be the biggest reflection of our style + luckily Andrew and I share the same taste so it makes decisions easy!

Now after I am in the process I believe that designing + building a home is a very overwhelming task but exciting nonetheless. As always, it takes a village. I always say trust in your professional(s) and that has already proven itself correct.

We enlisted in design help from the talented Clare Kennedy with REDO home + design (check out highlights of her work below plus more on her website + instagram!) + I LOVE HER. I found her on instagram + loved her portfolio. It was a great fit from the start and we are having so much fun together! Below is a little sneak of what I have saved on my instagram profile via folders... I have found this is the best way to compartmentalize everything. Side note: if you are wedding planning USE THIS TOOL!

christmas dinner party for our friends, a first of many!

THANKFUL FOR IT ALL. CHEERS TO THE NEW YEAR!

formal christmas

We are officially in CHRISTMAS WEEK!! I am so sad its coming to an end but wanted to share part 2 of the collaboration with Gracious Garlands + Heather Durham Photography! This is a more formal setup but I still chose to keep some things casual!

the cedar lane

WISHING YOU A BEAUTIFUL HOLIDAY AHEAD

"FRIENDSMAS" dinner party.

So excited to share my “friendsmas” dinner party that we hosted the first weekend of December! I also was excited to share with you all an alternative look to a centerpiece besides my normal floral arrangements.

I feel like its important to share different things, as well as ways to help save you money! Hosting does NOT have to be expensive. This centerpiece was under $100 with the help of things I already had!

My top five tips:

  1. FIND STYLE STAPLES

-as seen below: choose a style for your serving ware, ivory dishes, minimal glassware, and the modern flatware.

  2. STICK TO NEUTRALS

-neutrals are always a good idea, I naturally gravitate to them but if you do not stick to subtle colors like greys, ivory, white and black. They will mix well with prints + other accessories to make your neutral selections stand the test of time!

  3. INVEST DURING SALES

-I bought everything on this table from a black Friday promo code that saved me 20% on my entire purchase. If you know of sales coming I would wait + buy in bulk on staples (December and January are great months to save on sales!)

  4. PREPARE / BORROW

-I set all my tabletop + party goods out the week before a party. That way I can make sure I have everything I need + if I don’t then I go get what I need or ask a friend to borrow what I need, then return after the party! Use your resource’s wisely based on your budget.

  5. MOVE THINGS AROUND

-For this particular party I set up a little bar table under my staircase + moved things around to make it look different! My friends have been over to our house a ton of times so it’s always fun to show something different + it makes it more festive by having another space to decorate. Plus designating an area for the alcohol also kept people from ONLY being at the kitchen island!

Hopefully this little cheat sheet helps you in your next event. I also have linked everything below if you want to get the look yourself!

“SIP + SEE WHO’S BEEN SCOUTED”

I am so thrilled to be apart of the 2019 Scout Guide! A couple months ago Sara (the new + amazing owner of TSG Nashville) and I got together on ways to celebrate the new guide + bring everyone who is in it together! We decided there is not a better way to do this than throw a party!

The venue, a local airbnb / music studio called Buffalo Soul that is located in the heart of music row, was a perfect setting for this low key party (and you will also see them in the guide!). Luckily this outdoor everything event held out on the rain for one of the most comfortable nights of fall! Check out the mood board + pics below from this fun #nashville event.
